A film by Maurizio Dall'Acqua

A young author investigates the event that changed his family forever: the sudden death of his grandfather Nino. Returning to his hometown in Campania with Luisa, his grandmother and imaginary companion, he's guided in a search for the causes of this untimely death by the footage Nino himself shot before he passed, and by the fragmented memories of the five children he left.

synopsis

‘The Denied Time’ is a story that deeply belongs to me. This documentary was born from the need to understand an episode that marked my family, but which has always been little talked about, as if it were taboo. The sudden death of my grandfather Nino, his abandonment to the disease, created a void that my grandmother Luisa and their children tried to fill without ever really facing what had happened. Through the footage that Nino shot shortly before his death, I wanted to discover who my grandfather really was, a man that none of us ever really knew.

This journey was not only a physical return to my land, but also a descent into the depths of family memory, guided by the imaginary presence of my grandmother Luisa, a figure who has always accompanied me and to whom I am deeply attached. With this documentary, I sought to tell not only the story of my family, but also to reflect on how we deal with loss, silence and pain, and how these feelings can mark generations to come. ‘’The Denied Time‘’ is my attempt to reconstruct a past that seemed lost, but continues to live on in the fragments of images, memories and silences.
